KLO Discovery Days

Discovery Days are non-assessed enrichment opportunities for students to explore new skills, ideas, passions, etc. in a multi-grade setting. Discovery Day sessions occur weekly for 10-weeks, each semester. Sessions are either a full-morning or half-morning in length. Some sessions occur off-site and in the community while others take place in a classroom on-site. The goal of discovery days are to enrich the student learning experience by providing a variety of interest-driven learning opportunities across different domains.

Discovery Day Process

Pre-Registration:

Staff compile offerings for students that are posted in a description booklet. These will be posted on the KLO website and will include a brief overview, associated supplies or costs, special information, and the staff member leading the learning.

Registration:

Students and families review the varying options and submit a registration form with their top-5 requests. Students are placed in one of their selections by the Discovery Day team based on preference, availability, grade equity, and scheduling needs for students to receive an option within their submitted choices.

DD Placements:

Students are notified of their DA, DB, or FM options in the homeroom classes two weeks prior to the first Discovery Day. Students will meet with their DD teacher(s) and receive an overview of the course, forms, waivers, or other required information. Students will also have an opportunity to ask any questions that they may have.

Due to the scheduling requirements of our whole school community, DD placement adjustments/changes are not considered unless for medical reasons. Our team does their very best to place students in their top-3 choices but sometimes students receive one of their fourth or fifth choices.

Go Live Date:

Students and families must have Digital Parent/Guardian Field Study Permission forms completed and fees paid PRIOR to attending and participating in their assigned Discovery Day.
